BIG LOVE: "End of Days"

Original Air Date
March 7, 2010

Description
With the State Senate election only days away, Bill puts the squeeze on Paley in an attempt to protect his candidacy. But Marilyn has an ace up her sleeve that threatens to wreck Bill’s chances, or so it seems. At the casino, Jerry and Tom’s tribal leadership is jeopardized by the illegal actions of family members. Caught in a tangled family web, Margene weighs her allegiance to Bill with her desire to keep Ana and Goran in her life. Desperate to get pregnant, Nicki gets news from Dr. Roquet Walker – J.J.’s son – that seems too good to be true. A late-breaking polygamist scandal in Kansas becomes national news, forcing Bill and his three wives to rethink their bold post-election plans.

Notes
(B-) I have to say, this season kind of fizzled down the stretch. There was not anything particularly bad about the season finale and indeed there was a lot to like, however it did not really cap off the quality of most of the season.

There was so much tension built into the majority of the season, but it did not carry through the finale. I still loved the season and I can't wait for another.

There are many things that are left unresolved, but there are not that many cliffhangers. What will happen with all of J.J.'s fraudulent children. What will happen to Adeline now that she has apparently murdered J.J. and one of his wives? Or do you actually get burned up in the fire? Where is Joey? What will happen to the Flutes, will they return? What will be the reaction of Bill's pronouncement of his polygamy.

It seemed like Barb was going to walk off there for a moment. Maybe she still will. Maybe the Hendrickson's will end up like Don's family?

Ana, Goran and Margene seemed to be getting a little too cozy in their little three-way? It almost seemed like they were going to have a three-way there for a moment. Maybe she will join a new polygamist marriage?

What is going on with Alby? There was not much resolution to that. He is a broken man. That was pretty crazy that he cut his wife's face with a box cutter. Is Alby going to kill himself? He seems as crazy as Wanda at this point. Speaking of Wanda... is Joey, Jr. one of J.J.'s ilk?

Sissy Spacek was amazing in her stint on the show this season. I wonder if she will return for some episodes next year? I doubt it. Sadly, the lobbyist story line didn't have much a climax after helping to build the tension throughout the year.

The best part of this episode was the final scene at the state house when Bill declared that he was a polygamist and introduced his three wives. There was a lot of nuance in the scene. It was beautifully shot and I really did not know what was going to happen. I thought Margene or Barb could have not shown up. I thought Bill might decide to keep his polygamy a secret or maybe not accept the state senate position.

Too bad we have to wait forever for HBO to give us more...
